The Firm’s Estates and Trusts Department provides estate planning, business succession and asset protection advice.
Personal objectives and tax planning opportunities are carefully reviewed, creating a unique plan to properly reflect each client’s own goals and needs. Sophisticated planning techniques have been successfully utilized to provide transfer tax savings to clients and their families.
The Estates and Trusts Department is also involved in every aspect of administration of estates, trusts, and charitable foundations, including post mortem tax planning, caveat litigation, dispute resolution, and consultations to fiduciaries. The Firm prepares fiduciary income tax, gift tax, and estate (generation-skipping) tax returns, and represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service.
The Department is headed by Allan J. Gibber, whose treatise, Gibber on Estate Administration, has become the standard reference for the Courts, Registers of Wills, and the Bar for estate administration. This treatise is often cited in court proceedings and judicial opinions.
In addition, he is a frequent lecturer on estate planning and estate administration to the Maryland Bar, the Register of Wills Association and the Orphans’ Court Association and is often called to serve as an expert witness. He is a fellow of the American College of Probate Counsel, listed in the Best Lawyers in America and has received the Distinguished Service Award from MICPEL.
